Ubuntu
If you haven't heard of Ubuntu, it is one of the more popular versions of Linux. If you want to try Linux but you are having a tough time trying to burn the iso images required to make a bootable disk, you can just visit www.ubuntu.com and request a FREE disk. It's a great operating system, I use it all of the time. I actually have one of my laptops setup to dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

Give Linux a try
If you have heard of linux and want to give it a try, I suggest using a "live cd" this is a cd on which you have burned an image and you the boot your pc from the cd. This allows you to try different distrobutions without changing anything on your pc. A good first site to obtain these images is The Live CD List
You must burn the .iso image to the cd, you can't just copy it. I recommend a program called Infrarecorder
